The New School University Center Wins AIA Education Facility Design Award of Excellence
January 1, 2015
The New School University Center, designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP (SOM), is a mixed-use campus and student accommodation development in New York. SLCE worked as residential architect to developing the 608 student units.
SLCE developed the typical dormitory suite model, and worked that module through the plan to maximize the bed count within the zoning envelope, then developing the dormitory portion of the university center through design development, including allocating handicapped and resident assistant suites, coordinating structure, MEP, and tweaking the buildings envelope as required. The end deliverable was a design development set approved by TNS for construction documents to be produced by others.
