Main Street School Wins New York State Historic Preservation Award

This 1996 New York State Historic Preservation Award-winning project saw the rehabilitation of a landmark school building into senior housing and space for community use, including a day care center, theater and children’s sports facilities.
Originally built in 1907, this 78,000sqft Landmark school in Port Washington has been converted into 60 affordable apartments for senior citizens. The project also includes a Community Center
containing a Daycare Center, Parent Resource Center, Alzheimer’s Center, Teen Sports Center with an indoor basketball court, a 500 seat Theater and a Kids Sports facility. Landmark on Main Street received a 1996 New York State Historic Preservation Award from the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
