Located in the rapidly developing Midtown West neighborhood in Manhattan, VIA 57 West is a stunning and immediately recognizable presence on Manhattan’s skyline along the Hudson River. Designed with the Danish architecture firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), the project includes 709 residences—many with terraces and balconies—within 43 stories and 950,000 square feet. SLCE met the challenge to bring this complex project to a successful end, leading the collaborative effort between the client, construction manager, and architectural team.
Conceptualized by BIG as a hybrid between the traditional New York skyscraper and the European perimeter block, the building’s design allows for a 22,000-square-foot courtyard garden, and offers sweeping views of the Hudson from a majority of the building residences. Amenities for residents include a swimming pool, fitness center, basketball half-court, golf simulator, children’s playroom, library, poker room, media room, and gracious living rooms with fireplace, chef’s kitchen, serving kitchen, dining room, and an outdoor terrace with dramatic river views.
The building also features numerous elements geared toward urban sustainability. The energy-efficient building recycles 60,000 gallons of water per day, in addition to using responsibly sourced wood.
